Burton on Warhol:

After attending Le Bal Proust that Marie-Hélène de Rothschild gave in 1971 at her Château de Ferrières, Richard Burton - two times Elizabeth Taylor's husband -, who surprisingly was a very good diarist, observed on the man sitting opposite to him at the party:



"He looked like a cadaver when still and a failure of plastic surgery when he moved which was seldom. He was eye-brown-less and eye-lash-less and atrociously wigged or dyed with snow-white hair at the front of his head and to the crown, and nondescript brownish, rather like mine, hair at the back. His face was hideously pasted with make-up and had odd lumps on it, a face made of putty by an inept child"

Only then he was told that the curious man was Andy Warhol...
